The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
