The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
