News has broken that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

A Major Comeback for the Franchise

The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Speculation suggests their roles will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This represents the sixth installment in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind the majority of the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's narrative are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in important characters:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

1. Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming concluded in November of the same year.
