The star has given the entirety of his £25,000 award winnings to the MVT, which functions to preserve the UK's small music venues.

The star was given the prize on mid-October as his third album People Watching was named the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds supported locations that were dealing with possible closure due to difficulties caused by flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces received financial assistance in improving infrastructure and technical equipment that helped artists and concertgoers.

"The notion that money from performances in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the local youth club that developed their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients they gave their award to a charity for MS after a friend was diagnosed the condition.

"Winning was quite enough," stated vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had rescued a couple of local spots in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in that area and The Croft in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
