What makes this installment is special

Viewers of the series fondly remember this episode, which functioned as a recap of Aang and his companions' adventure leading up to the conclusion. Different from other recap episodes, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" wasn't motivated from financial limitations or scheduling problems. The producers truly wanted to give fans an opportunity to recap the overall plot, yet they chose to execute it with flair.

During the installment, the heroes watches a theatrical performance depicting their adventures at a playhouse located on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The whole thing is factually incorrect, melodramatic, and overall hilarious. It works since it plays on the characters' views about themselves, setting them against compared to how society (and particularly the Fire Nation citizens) sees them. It has the right amount of meta-commentary, and it ends up arguably the top rendition of Avatar released so far.
