New York City Mayor Eric Adams Plans to Back Andrew Cuomo in New York City Mayoral Race

New York City Mayor Mayor Adams declared his decision to back former Governor Cuomo in the upcoming mayoral race, even after an extended period of disagreements between the two Democratic figures.

A Surprising Reversal After Recent Criticism

Only weeks ago, the mayor had lashed out at Cuomo, labeling him a “snake and a untruthful person” and alleging of having “a career of marginalizing Black political contenders.” Nonetheless, in a new development, Adams made a U-turn, revealing he now intends to appear with Cuomo in neighborhoods where he holds strong support.

“I think that it is imperative to mobilize the communities of color that have suffered from gentrification on how critical this election is,” Adams commented.

Adams continued, “Residents have seen their housing costs rise due to gentrification and they have been disregarded in those neighborhoods, and I’m going to go to those neighborhoods and talk directly with organizers and groups and I’m going to walk with the former governor in those areas and get them engaged.”

Election Landscape and Current Developments

The election battle has so far been shaped by the contest between Cuomo and democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, whose growing support has drawn interest globally and represented aspirations for a revitalized progressive wing of the Democrats.

During a latest candidate forum, both Mamdani and GOP candidate his conservative opponent stated they would refuse Adams’s endorsement if offered.

Months ago, Adams had begun his bid for another term as an unaffiliated candidate after being indicted on legal accusations which were later dropped in exchange for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across the city.

At an unrelated press conference on Thursday, Adams answered journalists asking about the support announcement by saying, “I’ll be with Andrew this evening.”

This development followed a day after Adams and Cuomo were seen attending a game side-by-side at the New York Knicks’ season opener at Madison Square Garden, which occurred right after a heated mayoral debate.
