Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic associations to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a potential hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they begin the process of appointing a new head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any buyout fee.
