Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:

  • Every squad has just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
