Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
The manager lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase like this with results so bad.”
He stated, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
