Alleged Stalker Inquired: 'But What If I Could Be Madeleine?'
A individual indicted with stalking Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a voicemail message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has consistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court was told phone records and evidence recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported missing child cases and is still unsolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another recorded message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm fat and plain like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "What if there is a slight possibility that I am she? Then what? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I don't want money, I possess a living here in Poland, I only wish to know," she added.
The panel was advised that through electronic messages, mobile messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a bid to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who compiled the information, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted close associates of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I will persist and I plan to establish my point."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg struck up a connection online with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in that winter.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had reached out through messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the period before the trip to that location, that area, in that winter.
The court learned communications between the two individuals, in November 2024, planning attempting to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from utensils at a restaurant.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the visit to their home, the defendant sent a message which stated: "We are sitting adjacent to the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark similar to detectives. I desired to achieve this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
