Air travel have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a major technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

Every arrival and departure were suspended due to an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, significant disruption are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others facing hold-ups.

Officials had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the operational halt to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Travelers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the airport as residual delays are worked through.
