A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season

The winter break present a multitude of activities far superior than scanning the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on delicious food, and using meditation skills to avoid arguing with loved ones. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting news items came out over the holidays, and if you overlooked a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the main art for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now everyone is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season

Shortly after the release of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not been disclosed yet.
